Open Your Shopfront
Your name across the top, a line about the work, and a place
people can write to you. It takes an afternoon and you never need
anybody’s help to change it afterwards.

Put Up Your First Piece
A photograph, what it is, what it took, and what you are
asking for it. The price is yours and nobody here will ever
suggest you lower it.

You Are Paid Directly
The money for a sale goes to your own account. It does not
pass through us and no part of it is kept.

Ten Dollars A Month
Flat. The first month is free. No commission, ever — sell
one piece or fifty and it is the same ten dollars.

Find It
Type what you are picturing, or start with a craft and see
where it takes you. Everything here was made by one person, by
hand, in this country.

Read Her
Every piece carries the woman who made it — what it is made
of, how long it took, and who taught her. Write to her before you
buy if you want to; she reads them herself.

Buy It From Her
Your payment goes to her, not to a middleman taking a cut.
She packs it, she posts it, and she is the one who thanks you.

Something Made For Keeping
A thrown bowl outlives the person who bought it. That is
rather the point of the whole thing.

What does it cost me to sell here?
Ten dollars a month and nothing else. The first month is free. There is
no commission on any sale, at any volume, ever — and there never will be,
because taking a cut of a woman’s work is the thing this world was built to
stop.
Do I need to be any good with a computer?
No. If you can send a photograph to a grandchild you can put a piece up
here. Where something is fiddly we would rather fix the screen than teach you
to work around it, so tell us when it is.
What can I sell?
Anything you make with your hands, apart from food. Jewellery, ceramics,
dressmaking, leather, art, textiles, timber, paper, things for the house and
the garden, and anything you have brought back to life. Baking is the sister
world, Nan Made.
Is there an age you have to be?
This is built for women over fifty, because that is where the work and
the wisdom are, and because they are the ones a marketplace usually leaves
out.
Who sees my address?
Only the person you post a piece to, once she has bought it. Your suburb
is as close as anything on this world will ever put you on a map, and that is
deliberate rather than a limitation.
